Maintain the Joy and Spirit of the Holidays
The holiday season is a time for friends and family to gather together, but unfortunately that will not be possible for many families this year. This has been a trying year all around, and the holidays will be no different. So how do we get through the holidays when we have to be socially distant from those we would normally celebrate with? We have to get creative.
This has been a year full of Facetime, Zoom, and various other virtual get-togethers, and this will have to continue through the holidays. These outlets can make us feel a little better than just a phone call since they give us the opportunity to actually see the person we are talking to. We can be creative with these virtual get-togethers by playing games, having dinner, or even watching a movie ‘together.’ We can also send gifts in the mail and open them together over Facetime.

If a virtual get-together is not an option, we can stop by a loved one’s home and call them from outside and see one another through the window. Similarly to Facetime, this at least gives us the chance to see one another.
Social media sites can also give us a sense of togetherness when we must be apart. These outlets allow for us to share updates with our friends and family while also following along with what they have been up to.
For those of us without social media, another way to share updates with friends and family is by sending an update with our holiday cards this year and to ask that our loved ones do the same in return.
While these options are absolutely not the same as actually being together, we have to make the best of a not-so-great situation. If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that we must focus on what is important and do our best with the hand we are dealt.
